This Red-tailed Hawk collided with a vehicle on Interstate 5 in Washington on December 10th, 2019. After receiving a burial in flowers and greenery, I had to paint it on a large scale. My larger-than-death depictions provoke empathy towards these deceased avian subjects by examining both the tension and tenderness that exists within mortality.
